Debra Young joined WVU after fourteen years of practice in child & family and disability services. She has worked in both the public and private sectors and has direct practice experience with children, adolescents, adults, and families. In addition, she has supervisory experience in mental health and disability services, policy and procedure development at the agency level, and extensive experience conducting professional continuing education for social workers across West Virginia.
Dr. Young’s research has included examination of online continuing professional development for 21st Century Teachers, technological integration in the K-12 classroom, and Positive Behavioral Support as a classroom management technique. Her doctoral work involves an ethnographic exploration of the perceptions of the reasons West Virginia students choose to drop out of school.
