P.R.I.D.E. Foster and Adoptive Care Pre-Service Training and Resources

P.R.I.D.E. was initiated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Child Welfare League of America. The Pre-service component of the Foster and Adoptive Care training  was adapted for West Virginia. Pre-service training consists of 21 hours of training, generally done over a seven week time period or 3.5 weeks when 2 sessions are done on Saturdays or through the week (example Tuesday/Thursday evening classes).

The goals of Foster Parent Training are:

• To meet the multiple needs of children placed in foster and adoptive families.
• To strengthen families (whether they be kinship, foster, adopted, blended or members of a tribe or clan).
• Strengthen the quality of family foster care and adoptive services through standardization of training, assessment and on-going professional development.
• To share resources among public and voluntary child welfare agencies, universities, foster parent associations, and national child welfare organizations.
