Trauma and Resilience

Addressing trauma and fostering resilience are central to our research efforts within the WVU School of Social Work.

Faculty investigate trauma-informed prevention, intervention, and treatment strategies, with focuses on childhood trauma, migrant populations, and overall resiliency.

Our work examines adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their long-term effects, including links to obesity and other mental health challenges. Research in this area also explores burnout among social work educators and professionals, emphasizing strategies to enhance well-being and sustain the workforce. By studying risk and resilience, we develop innovative solutions to improve trauma-informed care and support systems.
