Tiffany Bloomer began the Social Work PhD program at West Virginia University in the Fall of 2024, with research interests in social policy, aging, and health equity. Drawing from her social work practice, Tiffany has witnessed firsthand the shortcomings of current social policies. She has noticed that many fail to meet their intended goals, lack a scientific foundation, and do not contribute to a more socially just society. This experience has inspired her to focus on policy reform in her academic journey. She is interested in policy research as it relates to rural health equity, older adults, substance use disorder, and integrated behavioral health.

Additionally, she has been accepted into the prestigious CSWE Social Work Doctoral Student Policy Fellowship. This two-year fellowship will provide Tiffany with experiential learning opportunities, connecting her research interests to federal policy while working alongside legislative and advocacy professionals on issues of social work and social justice.

Tiffany is grateful for the support of the WVU faculty, who have been excellent mentors throughout the program. Looking ahead, she hopes to leverage her PhD education to become an effective policy advisor, advocating for evidence-based policies that foster equity and social justice.
