Field Education is an integral part of the professional social work curriculum and requires a close cooperative relationship between the School of Social Work and the selected field sites who accept our students for the placement experience.
On campus students have the opportunity to complete their field placements with agencies throughout West Virginia and adjacent areas.
For online students, placements are arranged in their home communities and the seminars are completed online.
MSW Field Experience Types

Generalist Field Experience
- Regular Standing Students
- Two semesters
- 300 hours, plus integrative seminars (or online coursework) across both semesters
- 12-16 hours per week (part time or full time)

Advanced Field Experience
- Regular and Advanced Standing students
- Two semesters (3 for part0time students)
- 600 hours, plus integrative seminars (or online coursework) across semesters
- 14-16 hours per week (part time); 16-20 hours per week (full time)

Employer Based Field Experience
- Employer based placements considered on case-by-case basis.
