Damilola Owolabi began her Master of Social Work at West Virginia University in Morgantown in the fall of 2024. During her graduate studies, she developed a strong interest in macro social work and the use of research to address real-world social and behavioral health challenges. This interest motivated her decision to pursue a PhD in Social Work, where she hopes to use research to inform practical solutions and create meaningful, systems-level change.

Damilola worked with individuals, families, children, and adolescents experiencing a range of mental and behavioral health challenges at Valley health Care, while she gained clinical knowledge. This experience further strengthened her interest in understanding how individual experiences are influenced by broader social and systemic factors.

Her research interests include mental and behavioral health, substance use, suicide prevention, and health disparities among vulnerable populations. She is also interested in neuroscience and behavioral science and how these perspectives can strengthen social work research and practice. Through her doctoral education, Damilola hopes to bridge research, policy, and practice to develop evidence-based solutions that improve access to care and promote healthier communities, while passing down acquired knowledge and skills to future generations.
