Brooke graduated with her BSW and MSW from Troy University, in Alabama. She was drawn to WVU's Social Work program due to the small class structure and connection to the community. Her research area is adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and what the community does to increase positive childhood experiences through programs. Specifically, she wants to look at rural communities that might not have resources and bridge the gaps. She also wants to look at the ACE assessment and ways to improve questioning to include environmental and external factors.
Brooke has a background in non-profit community mental health, working with adults, children, and many community partners. So far in her PhD program, Brooke has enjoyed the encouragement and support that she gets from all faculty within the department. After graduation, she hopes to become an advocator for positive changes within our policies and further future social workers' education.
